150 'Potentially Lethal' Baby Products Found to Be Sold Widely on UK Marketplace
Researchers found some items were still listed after safety alerts, and marketplaces said they removed the flagged products.
The watchdog Which? identified 150 potentially lethal baby products sold on major online marketplaces, including pillows, sleeping bags, and self-feeding items marketed to UK consumers.
Researchers found 59 unsafe sleeping bags posing suffocation risks, 54 self-feeding devices linked to choking hazards, and 37 pillows marketed for infants under 12 months old.
Among the findings, 21 self-feeding items fasten around a baby's neck, while one AliExpress pillow listing showed at least 1,200 sales despite reviews calling it "way too heavy for a newborn or child under one."
Following contact, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, and Alibaba removed the flagged items from their platforms, though Wish failed to respond to the investigation.
The Head of Consumer Protection Policy warned that "the lives of babies are at risk" because platforms fail to stop dangerous products despite being aware of deadly risks.
