The heatwave, summer, and drought have farmers in southwest France under siege. Crops are not yielding the initially estimated quantities, and the farmland is parched, leading industry leaders to fear the harvest will not be profitable and insisting they need government support.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Agriculture said that it was "a few days off" the announcements on emergency aid for farmers affected by drought and heat waves, citing a need for consultation "between ministries" in view of the "consequential amounts".
