Possible Measles Exposure at Logan Airport in Boston, Health Officials Say

Health officials are tracing contacts and urging unvaccinated travelers to seek MMR vaccination and monitor symptoms for 21 days, officials said.

  • On Tuesday, April 14, a passenger with measles traveled through Boston Logan International Airport's Terminal C after arriving on JetBlue Airways Flight 470 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Health officials warned anyone in the terminal between midnight and 2:30 a.m. may have been exposed.
  • The infected traveler departed Logan in a private vehicle and traveled out of state to Rhode Island, where they are currently recovering at home. The Boston Public Health Commission confirmed there are no other known exposure points in Boston.
  • Unvaccinated individuals exposed to the virus should contact their healthcare provider immediately and monitor for symptoms for 21 days, through May 5, 2026. Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, Boston Public Health Commissioner, noted the MMR vaccine is up to 97% effective in preventing measles.
  • The number of confirmed measles cases in Massachusetts residents this year remains unchanged at two. While Suffolk County maintains a 94% vaccination rate, officials noted 1,748 confirmed cases across the United States this year.
  • Urging those unsure of their immunization status to get at least one MMR dose, health officials continue working to identify potentially exposed individuals. The virus can spread through the air or on surfaces for up to 2 hours after an infected person leaves.
