Portugal secured €1.5 billion ($1.74 billion) in financing from the European Investment Bank to expand affordable housing as the southern European country grapples with a cost-of-living crisis.

The Government and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have approved a new funding line of EUR 1.5 billion to rehabilitate or build, in the first phase, around 50,000 social housing throughout the country, identified by municipalities in the Local Housing Strategies.
The government today announced a new credit line of EUR 1.5 billion to support the construction and renovation of about 50,000 social housing houses that have remained outside the PRR.
Housing to be financed is identified by the municipalities in the Housing Local Strategies.
