Port Alice unplugging added to May 25 all-day North Island power outage

BC Hydro scheduled an all-day power outage for May 25 affecting Port Alice and all North Island communities from 8 a.m. To 7 p.m.
The outage results from planned upgrade work on aging transmission infrastructure located along the stretch connecting Woss to the Keogh substation.
Port Alice was initially to have generator power during the outage but unacceptable grounding levels prevented generator connection in time.
BC Hydro spokesperson Karla Louwers explained that these outages have been scheduled for several years during this time frame to help ensure the North Island’s electrical system remains reliable by focusing on replacing aging infrastructure that is reaching or has reached the end of its lifespan.
BC Hydro apologized for confusion and thanked customers for patience while crews perform vegetation management and system upgrades to reduce future outages.
