Popular Strictly star lands big job just weeks after 'upsetting' exit from BBC show
Karen Hauer will play dance teacher Mavis in Stepping Out after being one of five Strictly professionals not returning, the BBC said.
Following her recent departure from BBC Strictly, Karen Hauer has secured the role of Mavis in the upcoming stage production 'Stepping Out', a play depicting amateur tap dancers preparing for a charity gala.
Hauer was the show's longest-serving female professional when one of five dancers saw contracts not renewed for the 2026 series, a development sources described as 'upsetting' for her career transition.
Staged at Eastbourne's Devonshire Park Theatre and touring Southend, Fareham, and Bromley from August 13 to 29, the play features Hauer in a role she called 'really close to my heart.'
This career move coincides with wider series reinvention, as the BBC confirmed 15 professionals will return this autumn alongside newly recruited dancers set to be announced soon.
While Strictly faces changes following departures of hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, Hauer is 'trying to remain positive about the future' as she transitions to stage performance.
