Poodles abandoned in squalid home find forever homes
Rescuers said the dogs were severely matted and covered in waste, and the RSPCA reported a 70% rise in multi-animal cases.
Rescuers discovered 250 dogs living in squalor at a Nottingham property, with some animals forced into a wood burner; The RSPCA took in 87 poodles while Dogs Trust accepted the remainder.
Jade Burton, head of animal services at RSPCA Woodside, said the dogs were scared and severely matted; the care team spent 48 hours grooming the animals with support from Bella and Barney Vets.
Ten-Month-Old Winston, once described as a "trembling wreck," is now settling near Leicester with owners Lisa and Mark Bream, who visited RSPCA Woodside daily for two weeks building trust with the pup.
After weeks of careful introductions, the family adopted Winston on March 12; Mrs Bream said he was initially scared of his lead but now happily organizes his toys in his basket each night.
Data from The RSPCA shows a 70 per cent rise over the past five years in incidents involving ten or more animals across England and Wales, prompting the charity to urge adoption from rescue centers.
