Poll contradicts claim trans athlete issue ‘divides nation’

Re “California lawmakers reject bans on trans athletes” (April 2): The article’s first sentence ends by calling this “the latest clash in a debate that divides the nation.” Yet The New York Times poll from January of this year says 67% of Democrats and 94% of Republicans believe biological boys should not be able to compete in women’s sports. I would consider these poll numbers far from a “divided nation.” — Phil Ripa, Oceanside
