Sukhbir Singh Badal Declared Stable After Undergoing Surgery Following Nanded Gurdwara Attack
Police arrested Jaspal Singh after the attack, and officials said multiple agencies are investigating while Badal receives treatment for his injuries.
On Thursday, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked with a 'kirpan' inside a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra, and assailant Jaspal Singh was arrested following the assault.
Singh, a 62-year-old sevadar at the Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan for two years, allegedly carried out the attack, though police have not yet determined a motive despite ongoing investigations.
Doctors declared Badal stable on Friday after he underwent 90 minutes of surgery to repair a tendon injury and a sharp penetrating wound to his ulnar artery nerve.
Officials registered a case against Singh at the Mudkhed police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 109, 118, and 121 for attempt to murder; police officer Santosh Kendre was also injured protecting the SAD Chief.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for 'taking immediate cognisance of the incident and directing central investigating agencies to coordinate with Maharashtra police.
