Mounties fatally shoot allegedly armed suspect in Cold Lake
ASIRT is investigating after an officer shot an armed suspect during a domestic call, and no officers were injured, police said.
On Thursday, June 25, 2026, an Alberta RCMP officer fatally shot a suspect during a domestic call in Cold Lake, Alberta, prompting the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team to launch an independent investigation.
Responding to the residence around 4:48 p.m., officers encountered an armed man while two other occupants safely fled; communication attempts failed, forcing the RCMP Emergency Response Team to intervene.
During the confrontation, at least one officer discharged their service weapon, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene with no officers reporting injuries.
The RCMP has launched an internal review process examining training, policy, and the officer's duty status, while the Police Review Commission directed ASIRT to conduct the independent oversight investigation.
Independent investigations by ASIRT are standard procedure for all officer-involved shootings in Alberta, and the RCMP stated they will provide no further information while the investigation remains underway.
