2 Hurt, Gunman Dies by Suicide After Grocery Store Shootout with St. Paul Officers, Police Say
ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, JUL 11 – Two civilians suffered noncritical injuries after a man opened fire inside a Cub Foods grocery store, police said, with law enforcement negotiating during the incident.
- On Friday afternoon in St. Paul, officers engaged a man who had left a home with a child and entered an Aldi store on Clarence Street near Lake Phalen.
- The incident followed a domestic violence call about a man with a firearm who fired inside the home and pistol-whipped someone shortly before noon.
- Officers tried to talk to the man, who shoved them, pointed a gun at officers, ran toward Cub Foods, shot two women near Destiny Caf 2, and exchanged gunfire with police before dying by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
- The two women suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital, police wore body cameras that recorded the event, and involved officers were placed on administrative leave as the BCA investigates the use-of-force incident.
- St. Paul officials called the situation one of the city’s most terrifying days, praising the community’s heroic response and expressing relief that more people were not harmed.
