Police name Leicester man last seen in 2024, as digging begins at property in the city
Twelve arrests have been made and searches at an Evington property will continue for weeks as police probe the disappearance and suspected murder of Gary Piatek.

- Among those detained, six men and two women remain in custody, while a ninth man, 50, is held on suspicion of assisting an offender, and two suspects were released under investigation or with no further action.
- The force urged anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident number 221 of February 9 2026, and provided support to Piatek's close friends.
- Detective Inspector Michael Chandler said the probe is in its early stages with a large amount of police activity likely to continue for a number of weeks, and the force stressed this is not a Counter Terrorism policing operation while officers offer reassurance.
