‘Hijacked’ small airplane delayed and diverted flights at Vancouver airport: RCMP
BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA, JUL 15 – A 39-minute ground stop and diversion of nine inbound flights occurred after a Cessna 172 was hijacked from Victoria and flown near Vancouver International Airport, police said.
- On July 15, travel was briefly halted at Vancouver International Airport due to a report of a small airplane being hijacked, as stated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police .
- The RCMP reported that a Cessna 172 was hijacked from the Vancouver Island area and entered airspace near Vancouver.
- The suspect, the sole occupant of the aircraft, landed safely in Vancouver at 1:45 PM and was arrested without incident, according to the RCMP.
- During this incident, Vancouver International Airport diverted nine inbound flights and temporarily halted operations across the airport.
