A retired state government executive walking home from the Keizer Elks lodge died Saturday, April 11, after he was struck by a vehicle, Keizer police reported. Donald A. Altermatt, 61, was attempting to cross River Road at Manbrin Drive when the accident occurred at about 10 p.m. He died later that night at Salem Hospital.
