Last night, protesters threw fireworks at the police, obstructed traffic, and attacked a vehicle, among other things.
At least three people were arrested this evening during a new demonstration against the opening of an emergency shelter for asylum seekers in Apeldoorn. The protest was supposed to end at 8:00 PM, but a group of approximately one hundred demonstrators ignored this. Police officers subsequently intervened.
In Ter Apel, various far-right Defend groups were supposed to demonstrate against ‘mass immigration’ on Saturday afternoon, but many more counter-demonstrators showed up, who actually have a soft spot for asylum seekers.
With a peaceful march and several speeches afterwards, residents of Apeldoorn made it loud and clear that they are deeply concerned about a planned large asylum seekers' center in a residential area. Several women, as well as a 16-year-old girl, expressed their concerns in speeches.
The police intervened last night due to unrest in Overvecht-Noord in Utrecht. According to a spokesperson, there were tensions around the Sint-Eustatiusdreef, where a group of young people reportedly challenged and booed officers.
