Police ask for help with unsolved murder more than 50 years ago
- Police Service of Northern Ireland's Legacy Investigation Branch has issued a fresh appeal, seeking help over 50 years after Brian McDermott's murder in east Belfast.
- On Sunday, Brian McDermott, 10-year-old schoolboy, left his Well Street home at around 12.30pm to play in Ormeau Park and failed to return for his Sunday dinner.
- Detectives outlined that he was last seen playing alone in the playground that afternoon, and his remains were recovered almost a week later from the River Lagan near the Belfast Boat Club.
- Legacy Investigation Branch detectives said they will consider all investigative opportunities and asked anyone with information to contact the Legacy Investigation Branch, noting some may now be willing to speak.
- More than 50 years on, police said the family continue to feel the pain and the murder case has never been closed, keeping the review active, a PSNI spokesperson confirmed.
