Chinese Tech Rule Blocks Future Polestar U.S. Models

Bloomberg Intelligence analysts said the ban could put about $250 million in 2027 revenue at risk, or 5% of group sales.

  • Polestar Automotive Holding was denied U.S. authorization to sell future models starting with the 2027 model year under federal connected-vehicle rules targeting Chinese technology.
  • Federal rules adopted by the Biden administration in January 2025 block connected vehicles with Chinese software, hardware, or ownership ties on national security grounds; the Trump administration upholds them.
  • Bloomberg Intelligence analysts Michael Dean and Giacomo Reghelin noted about $250 million of 2027 revenue is at risk, equal to about 5% of group sales. New Jersey dealer Matthew Haiken expressed disbelief over disparate treatment versus Volvo Car AB.
  • Polestar will continue selling existing Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 inventory while servicing customers, accelerating a strategic pivot toward Europe to mitigate the loss of U.S. market access.
  • Although Volvo secured U.S. authorization last month despite shared control by Geely founder Li Shufu, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group said it remains confident in its portfolio companies' management.
