Germany Updates: EU Ministers to Talk Migration in Denmark
POLISH-BELARUSIAN BORDER, JUL 21 – Ministers highlighted Poland's nearly 97% effective border barrier and called for increased EU support to prevent migration used as a destabilization tactic by Russia and Belarus.
- The visit to the Polish-Belarusian border in Podlaskie on Monday saw Dobrindt emphasize that securing EU external borders is vital for Schengen’s free movement.
- Earlier this month, Poland implemented border checks on its frontiers with Germany and Lithuania, complementing a nearly 97% effective steel barrier at PoBowce and supporting Tusk’s recent efforts to curb migration.
- Dobrindt also urged EU support for Poland’s border protection and stressed that `border checks can only be a temporary measure`.
- Dobrindt said that joint controls at the German-Polish border help combat illegal immigration, and controls are only temporary, with a goal to lift them as soon as possible.
