Poland is extending temporary controls on its borders with Lithuania and Germany for another six months until March 30 next year, a European Commission (EC) representative announced on Wednesday.

There's still no end in sight to a major railway investment on the Polish-German border. The agreement for its implementation was signed 23 years ago.

The European Commission confirmed in a statement to RMF FM that it has received formal notification from Poland to extend border controls with Germany and Lithuania for another six months. The controls are to be in effect from October 2, 2026, to March 30, 2027. "We will now assess Poland's notification," said EC spokesman for home affairs Markus Lammert.
