Pokémon Legends: Z-A review - a mega improvement
Pokémon Legends: Z-A brings back Mega Evolution and features a real-time battle system in a 15-hour story set in Lumiose City, the Kalos Region capital, Game Freak said.
- On October 16th, Pokémon Legends: Z-A launched for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, set entirely in Lumiose City and centered on a city-wide Z-A tournament.
- Game Freak rebuilt the battles in Z-A, using an entirely real-time combat system with attacks mapped to the Switch's four face buttons and a menu pause as the only respite.
- Mega Evolution returns as a temporary boost requiring a specific Mega Evolution stone bought, traded, or earned, while Lumiose City hosts the Z-A Royale at night in Battle Zones.
- On Nintendo Switch 2, Z-A runs at a perfectly crisp 60 frames per second with no noticeable hitches, and reviewers called it a major step forward and genuinely ambitious.
- With the next generational leap likely to come out next year, Z-A offers lessons despite Game Freak being overworked and understaffed, affecting past technical quality.
