Points program shuffle: BMO replacing Air Miles, Shell joins Scene+
Blue Rewards will launch this summer, converting 10 million Air Miles users’ points and adding Shell’s 1,400 Canadian stations to the Scene+ loyalty program.
- On Jan. 26, 2026, BMO Financial Group announced it will replace the Air Miles program with Blue Rewards this summer, converting members' balances automatically at equivalent value.
- Because Air Miles had lost a string of major retailers in Canada before BMO's 2023 acquisition for US$160 million, following LoyaltyOne Co.'s bankruptcy.
- BMO said the new Blue Rewards app will integrate into BMO mobile banking and website, offering Expedia Group bookings and partners like Porter Airlines, Accor Group, Instacart, MTY Group, and more than 400 brands.
- Shell customers can continue earning Air Miles through March 2 in Alberta and May 25 elsewhere, and Shell Canada will join the Scene+ loyalty program March 3 in Alberta and May 26 across Canada, affecting roughly 1,400 locations.
- Around 10 million active Air Miles users can expect to keep using their cards uninterrupted, and BMO Air Miles credit and debit card holders will receive more program details in the coming months.
