AMC is creating a sequel series to the 1991 film Point Break, set 35 years later in 2026, focusing on a new heist crew linked to the original Ex-Presidents gang.
- Recently, AMC Networks is developing a TV adaptation of the 1991 film Point Break, set 35 years later in 2026 and written by David Kalstein with Alcon and AMC Studios.
- Capitalizing on franchise appeal, Alcon and AMC are revisiting Point Break, one of the most iconic films of the 1990s, after AMC recently succeeded with Interview with the Vampire.
- David Kalstein will pen and exec-produce the series alongside Alcon co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson and president of television Ben Roberts; Kalstein’s credits include NCIS: Los Angeles, Quantico, Treadstone and Butterfly.
- If greenlit, the show will follow a dangerous heist crew tied to the Ex-Presidents, reviving the film’s motif of masks featuring Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter and Lyndon B. Johnson.
- This is not Point Break’s first adaptation, as the 2015 Point Break remake directed by Ericson Core preceded AMC’s project, which Deadline reports was won competitively.
