'Point Break' TV series in the works at AMC, Canal+

  • AMC and streaming platform AMC+ officially greenlit an eight-part series based on the 1991 action film Point Break, which has been in development for over a year.
  • Set in the present day, over 30 years after the original film, the series follows a new heist crew inspired by the Ex-Presidents gang while the FBI must recruit an ex-pro surfer to infiltrate them.
  • Co-Showrunners Dave Kalstein and Christopher C. Rogers will executive produce, with lead studio Alcon Television Group partnering with AMC Studios and StudioCanal for production beginning early next year.
  • "Point Break was the movie that rocked our worlds forever," Kalstein and Rogers stated, while Dan McDermott, president of AMC Studios, expressed enthusiasm for the production moving forward.
  • StudioCanal will handle international distribution, bringing the series to Canal+ subscribers across Europe, Africa, and Asia, complementing AMC's portfolio expansion that includes the final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
