PNB Scam: CBI Arrests Nirav Modi's Aide Sandeep Mistry After Extradition From UAE
The CBI says Mistry helped a conspiracy that cheated Punjab National Bank of nearly Rs 6,498.20 crore and destroyed evidence.
On Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation formally arrested Sandeep Mistry in Mumbai following his extradition from the UAE on Monday.
Mistry allegedly participated in a conspiracy involving fraudulent Letters of Undertaking at the Brady House PNB branch, cheating the bank of over $2 billion.
Investigators claim Mistry, along with Nehal and others, threatened dummy directors of associated firms in Dubai to leave after the case was lodged.
A special CBI court remanded Mistry to judicial custody until October 6 after the agency produced him before the bench.
Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi remain under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI for money laundering charges since 2018.
Sandeep Mistry, wanted in the Nirav Modi PNB bank fraud case, was deported from the UAE by the CBI with the assistance of the Ministry of External Affairs and Home Affairs and brought to India. He is accused of creating fake business ventures, creating fake documents, intimidating nominal directors into signing documents, and withdrawing money from the accounts of fake UAE companies.
