CBSA, PMO say they were not involved in MP announcing ban on Belfast band Kneecap
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada canceled one member's electronic travel authorization for incomplete application information; other members' entries remain under review, officials said.
- On Monday, the Prime Minister's Office and the Canada Border Services Agency said they were not consulted in Vince Gasparro, parliamentary secretary for combating crime's announcement deeming Kneecap ineligible to enter Canada.
- Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada says one member's eTA was cancelled a month before Gasparro's announcement for omitting complete information, while the other two members' applications remain under review and they were told not to travel.
- The written response, tabled on the final day before the required 45-day deadline, answered NDP MP Jenny Kwan's order-paper question, while Vince Gasparro's social video accused the group of `advocating for political violence` and `glorifying terrorist organizations` but refused to say who authorized it.
- The Canada Border Services Agency would enforce any entry ban, while IRCC says the cancelled electronic travel authorization does not preclude reapplication and inadmissibility ends once non-compliance ends.
- Conservative Deputy Leader Melissa Lantsman said last month that `either doesn't know what’s happening within his own government or clearly lied`, while NDP MP Jenny Kwan called Vince Gasparro a `rogue Liberal MP` and sought House of Commons committee scrutiny.
