PM says all decisions taken in national interest in NEC meeting, praises CMs' cooperation in budget-making
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired the National Economic Council in Islamabad, approving a Rs3.66 trillion national development budget and setting a 4% GDP growth target for the next fiscal year.
Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal detailed the allocation: Rs1 trillion for federal development, Rs2.21 trillion for provincial spending, and Rs451 billion for federal enterprises to support nationwide economic progress.
Iqbal noted that 74% of government revenue services debt, while establishing an 8.2% inflation target and sector-specific growth goals: 3.6% for agriculture, 4.5% for industry, and 4.2% for services.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry confirmed the budget session will likely occur Friday, June 12, following provincial consultations and acknowledgment of 'full cooperation' from provincial governments.
Stressing that Pakistan requires a 'development emergency,' the Prime Minister emphasized increasing foreign investment and exports, noting economic activity remains a joint responsibility of the Centre and provinces.
