PM Modi Embarks on Maiden Trip to New Zealand
The two-day visit will focus on trade, defence and diaspora ties after India and New Zealand signed a free trade agreement, officials said.
On Friday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed Melbourne for Auckland, New Zealand, concluding his three-day Australia visit and beginning the final leg of his three-nation tour, seen off by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
Modi's itinerary spans Indonesia and Australia, where he inked 14 agreements covering critical minerals and maritime security to strengthen trade cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.
During his three-day visit to Australia, Modi held summit talks with Albanese, successfully sealing a civil nuclear energy deal to facilitate commercial supply of Australian uranium to India.
In New Zealand, Modi will hold bilateral talks with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, addressing the Indian diaspora and advancing the Free Trade Agreement between the nations.
This trip marks the first visit to New Zealand by an Indian Prime Minister in four decades, with Modi stating his visit will "meaningfully build upon the strong momentum" from Prime Minister Luxon's 2025 India visit.
