MALDIVES, JUL 25 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi attends Maldives' 60th Independence Day as Guest of Honour to advance a Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership, marking deepening bilateral ties.
- On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Velana International Airport, received with ceremonial honours, traditional music, and chants of `Vande Mataram` in Male, Maldives.
- During his two-day visit, Modi is slated to attend Maldives' 60th Independence Day celebrations and review the `Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership` adopted in October 2024, noting six decades of diplomatic relations.
- At Male International Airport, children of the Indian diaspora performed a dance, the two leaders exchanged a hug and streets and major roundabouts were adorned with festive banners and posters.
- The visit consolidates strong ties and enhances peace, prosperity and security in the Indian Ocean Region, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said.
- During his visit, Modi will hold wide-ranging discussions with President Mohamed Muizzu, and oversee the anticipated launch of India's UPI services in the Maldives.
