Afreximbank Breaks Ground On Its Iconic Trade Centre and New Headquarters in Egypt's New Capital
The new centre will boost intra-African trade by providing trade intelligence, SME incubation, and digital services, with Afreximbank having invested $41 billion in Egypt, officials said.
- In Egypt's Diplomatic District, Afreximbank launched construction of the Afreximbank African Trade Centre that will house its new global headquarters about 45 kilometres east of Cairo.
- Intended to tackle information gaps, the project will address a near-seven-decade shortage of trade data and build capacity, while Egypt has hosted Afreximbank's headquarters for more than three decades with US$41 billion disbursed.
- On the ground, the project will occupy a site of 48,888 square metres with two basement levels and six floors, designed by EHAF Consulting Engineers and constructed by Hassan Allam Construction under a US$249.5 million contract.
- The centre will position Egypt as a major trade hub, hosting trade-supporting facilities including a trade information centre, SME incubation centre, 110-room apartment hotel, and conference centre, while generating jobs and opportunities for local contractors, suppliers and SMEs.
- As part of a network, the AATC will connect hubs in Abuja, Harare, Kampala, Abidjan, Yaoundé, Bridgetown, Kigali and Tunis, deepening continental connectivity and supporting trade facilitation, with construction underway in Harare and Kampala following Barbados and Abuja milestones.
