Play Kitchens Recalled After Toddler’s Death
UNITED STATES, JUL 31 – The Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled nearly 500,000 units after dozens of injuries and one toddler death linked to hazardous play kitchens and step stools.
- Thursday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Cosco recalled 302,000 kitchen steppers after reports of safety bar detachment and two head injuries.
- A 23-month-old child’s death prompted scrutiny of KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens after his shirt caught on a hook, posing a head injury hazard.
- Cosco recalled nearly 500,000 kitchen steppers after 34 reports of safety bar failures, including two head injuries, following consumer reports.
- Following the recall, Backyard Kids agreed to supply free replacement hooks for all affected units; about 192,000 units were recalled, despite only about 400 being sold to consumers.
- The Cosco stepper recall was in recent years after Onasti’s recall of about 10,000 towers in March, amid TikTok-driven demand.
