BIG SUR (AP) — The Plaskett Fire erupted Wednesday in steep terrain in Monterey County along Highway 1. Officials briefly closed a portion of the scenic coastal route Thursday afternoon as firefighters scrambled to keep the flames from running through canyons.
The legendary panoramic route along the Pacific Ocean is famous for its spectacular viewpoints. However, due to two fires, a distance of about 70 kilometres is currently closed.
Tourists love the view, the U.S. highway leads along the entire Pacific coast. However, one section is not accessible now.
