'Narnia: The Magician's Nephew' Trailer Unveils Greta Gerwig's Vision
The trailer uses Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” and Netflix says the $280 million film will open in theaters before streaming later.
- On Tuesday, director Greta Gerwig debuted the first look at Narnia: The Magician's Nephew at the AMC Lincoln Square in New York, showcasing an IMAX-sized adaptation of C.S. Lewis's allegorical adventure.
- Netflix, in a dramatic reversal for the company, is giving the $280 million film a wide theatrical release following Gerwig's $1.44 billion-grossing Barbie. CEO Ted Sarandos backed the project after Gerwig pitched it at a cocktail party.
- Soundtracked to Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven," the trailer features Daniel Craig as the "mad" Uncle Andrew and Meryl Streep voicing Aslan, who sings the universe into existence. The band rarely licenses their music, making the sync an impressive coup.
- Fans can catch the film in IMAX theaters starting February 10, 2027, followed by a wide release on February 12 and a Netflix premiere on April 2, 2027. This marks Netflix's first major theatrical rollout strategy.
- This "Narnia Cinematic Universe" represents Netflix's first attempt at a theatrical film franchise, building on global rights acquired in 2018. The film adapts the 1955 prequel as the franchise's opening installment.
