On the reversal of the gains of the last two decades, the President of the Republic warned that this "is a serious retreat that deserves serious reflection and action" but left still an aspect of the study that saw little explored: "The young Portuguese are among the most curious and persistent of the OECD. For, only 20% consider that the school was a waste of time".
The Head of State stated that the study of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) indicates "a serious setback" in learning, not only in Portugal, which deserves serious reflection and action, but has triggered "the wrong debate", with "two fields accusing each other of all evils".
António José Seguro also referred to the "failures in national examinations" of access to higher education to "transitions that did not run as they should".
The President of the Republic today warned of socio-economic inequalities in Portugal regarding access to higher education, and defended "serious reflection and action" against the results of PISA, "with long-term political will".
