The authorities attribute part of the extreme virulence and unpredictable behavior of the megafire to the appearance of the so-called 'firestorms', an exceptional phenomenon in France by which the fire itself generates a gigantic cloud capable of creating winds, throwing embers miles away and even originating new foci.
