2 Pinellas Deputies Arrested for Using Law Enforcement Databases to Track Teen Girl, Woman: PCSO
Authorities say the former deputies used restricted systems for personal reasons, including 381 searches by one suspect and repeated unauthorized queries by the other.
- Former Pinellas County Sheriff's Office deputies Travis Stanton and Karl Gwynne were arrested on Wednesday following separate investigations into their misuse of restricted law enforcement databases for personal reasons involving women.
- Stanton allegedly monitored a 17-year-old fast-food worker by repeatedly running her personal information through law enforcement databases after she told him she was underage and what car she drives.
- Audits revealed Gwynne performed 381 unauthorized searches on a 35-year-old woman he wanted to date across five law enforcement systems, including 207 queries made while he was off duty between January 2025 and July 2026.
- Both deputies resigned and face felony charges with bonds set at $10,000 and $25,000. Sheriff Bob Gualtieri defended the technology itself, calling the misuse a "people problem" rather than a system failure.
- PCSO intends to implement random database checks to prevent future abuse, while the Florida Department of Transportation continues removing Flock cameras from state roads following the misconduct revelations.
