McLaren Defends Hungary F1 Strategy After Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris Fume over Radio
McLaren’s Lando Norris earned his first pole of the season after penalties moved Lewis Hamilton to fifth and Oscar Piastri to third.
On Saturday, Lando Norris secured pole position at the Hungaroring for the Hungarian Grand Prix, marking his first top start of the 2026 season.
Qualifying sessions resulted in significant grid reshuffles after officials penalized Lewis Hamilton for impeding Oscar Piastri during the session, moving Piastri to third place.
Demoted to fifth, Hamilton posted on Instagram expressing frustration, writing, "Sometimes you just can't catch a break." He cited three penalties in three weekends.
Championship leader Kimi Antonelli also received a three-place penalty for failing to slow under yellow flags, dropping him behind Max Verstappen on the grid.
Following Sunday's race, teams head into the summer break before Formula 1 resumes at Zandvoort in the Netherlands nearly a month later.
