FIA Launch McLaren Investigation After Norris and Piastri Clash in Singapore
McLaren lost a potential nine-point haul as both drivers face the stewards after Norris’s late inside move sent Piastri spinning.
On Saturday, McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided at Turn 5 during the final lap of the Singapore sprint race, ending Piastri's race while Norris recovered to finish eighth.
The pair were running fourth and fifth when Norris attempted a late lunge, costing McLaren a potential nine-point haul; commentator David Croft said, "I would avoid Zak Brown for the best part of the day."
FIA stewards are investigating the collision, as guidelines stipulate Norris's front axle must be level with Piastri's at the apex. Norris stated, "I apologize to them that one of the cars is out."
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella and CEO Zak Brown declined interviews, reportedly furious over the incident. Piastri admitted, "It's a lot of work to get both cars fixed."
Weather delays ahead of Saturday's sprint have pushed back qualifying, providing the team extra time to prepare both cars before the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday.
Drama in the last lap! At the sprint race in Singapore, Lando Norris wanted to overtake his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri just a few bends ahead of the finish line – and shot him off the track. The certainly believed positions four and five for the British team were thus history.
