Longest in History of Nazareno: Traslacion Ends After Nearly 31 Hours
Itoh Son collapsed from likely heart failure amid the longest Traslacion procession lasting over 30 hours with nearly 9.64 million attendees, organizers said.
- Itoh Son, a photojournalist of tabloid Saksi and MPD Press Corps, collapsed around 2 a.m. in front of MPD Station 5 and later died at Ospital ng Maynila.
- Mechanical failures and long stops, including snapped lubid and a four-hour delay on Arlegui Street, stretched the Traslacion, with the andas taking over a day to reach the Minor Basilica of San Sebastian Church for the dungaw.
- DOH and the Philippine Red Cross said they assisted 344 and 536 devotees respectively, while the Quiapo Church Command Post recorded around 1,700 medical cases including two deaths.
- Quiapo Church officials said they had to let the procession continue due to the andas direction change, and organizers plan a final press conference Saturday afternoon; Robert Arellano said the photojournalist's death was not a procession casualty.
- This year's Traslacion lasted 30 hours, 50 minutes, the longest ever, with record attendance reported by the Nazareno Operations Center and Manila Public Information Office.
