Philly DA joins nationwide coalition to prosecute ICE agents who break laws
A coalition of nine progressive prosecutors, led by Philadelphia DA Krasner, will pursue state charges against federal agents violating laws, citing recent deadly ICE shootings.
- Larry Krasner, Philadelphia District Attorney, announced a coalition with eight prosecutors including Mary Moriarty and Jose Garza, launching the Project for the Fight Against Federal Overreach legal fund on Wednesday.
- Earlier this month, Krasner linked the coalition to the Jan. 7 killing of Renee Good and Saturday's death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, citing recent shootings.
- Donations will fund a legal fund to hire outside litigators, experts and forensic investigators, and the coalition launched federaloverreach.org to solicit support for prosecutions under state criminal statutes.
- Krasner vowed to hold agents accountable, calling ICE agents "wannabe Nazis" and promising, `If we have to hunt you down the way they hunted down Nazis for decades, we will find your identities. We will achieve justice`.
- The announcement positions Krasner in a national clash with the Trump administration, framing the effort as resisting federal overreach, as Krasner said, 'It is a gathering of people who take democracy seriously and are willing to do what their oath requires, to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the United States.
