Philippines to rename disputed South China Sea islands

The order covers 131 features and directs agencies, schools and mapmakers to use the new Philippine names.

The features to be renamed belong to the Spratly archipelago, site of repeated confrontations between Philippine and Chinese vessels.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the giving of Filipino names to more than 100 islands, reefs, and other sea features in the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG).
