Philadelphia 76ers promote Jameer Nelson to new role in front office, league source says
Jameer Nelson rises to the No. 2 front-office role as the Sixers add Mike Gansey and reassign Elton Brand after the playoff sweep.
On Sunday, the Philadelphia 76ers promoted Jameer Nelson to Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, making the former NBA All-Star the franchise's second-in-command under new President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey.
Following the firing of Daryl Morey last month, the organization hired Gansey to lead basketball operations after the team's postseason sweep by the New York Knicks.
Nelson, a Chester native and 14-year NBA veteran, began his front office career in 2020 as a scout and executive for the G League's Delaware Blue Coats before his promotion.
General manager Elton Brand transitioned to a new role within Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, while assistant general manager Prosper Karangwa agreed to a multiyear contract extension to remain with the franchise.
Gansey will hold his introductory news conference Monday at Philadelphia's training complex in Camden, New Jersey, where he will outline his vision for the franchise's future.
