The $3.5 billion facility will create 850 permanent jobs and 2,000 construction jobs, producing next-generation injectable weight-loss drugs including investigational retatrutide.
- Friday, Eli Lilly and Company announced a $3.5 billion manufacturing plant in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh Valley, with 850 permanent jobs, at the Da Vinci Science Center alongside Gov. Josh Shapiro and David A. Ricks.
- Lilly selected the Lehigh Valley from over 300 applications, citing proximity to STEM universities and existing infrastructure, supported by roughly $100 million in state incentives, said Governor Shapiro.
- Construction is expected to begin this year, generating about 2,000 construction jobs while the plant will manufacture injectable medicines including retatrutide and Zepbound using AI and machine learning, Lilly said.
- Officials say the investment will boost the Lehigh Valley economy with up to four dollars in activity per dollar invested and create high-value jobs with average annual pay $100,000, Lilly said.
- It is the fourth new U.S. manufacturing site Lilly has announced since February 2025, linking to commitments of at least $27 billion then and more than $50 billion since 2020.
