Elevated concentrations of PFAS have been found in the water surrounding a large steel slag consignment in Spijk, Gelderland, reports the Rivierenland water board. The approximately 670,000 tons of slag are a byproduct of steel production and were used to build a noise barrier at a golf course. However, this was not done according to regulations, resulting in (heavy) metals from the steel slag leaching into surface water and groundwater.
