PSNI Seeks Witnesses After Petrol Bomb Attack on Strabane Patrol Car

Police said the patrol car suffered minor damage and no injuries were reported after the reckless attack in a residential area.

  • On Saturday evening, a Police Service of Northern Ireland vehicle was attacked with petrol bombs in Strabane, County Tyrone, while officers patrolled the Ballycolman Estate area shortly after 5pm.
  • Three masked males dressed in black each threw a petrol bomb at the passenger side of the patrol vehicle as it passed through the residential area.
  • Despite only minor damage to the vehicle, Chief Inspector Cherith Craig described the incident as a "totally reckless attack," warning it "could have resulted in serious injuries to the officers or to nearby members of the public."
  • An investigation is underway and police are appealing for witnesses to contact authorities on 101, quoting reference number 1073 to assist with inquiries.
  • Craig stated "attacks on police are unacceptable and must not be tolerated," emphasizing that officers remain committed to helping communities and responding to calls for assistance across Northern Ireland.
