Rocket Classic Par Scores
Malnati tied a tournament record with a 61 and took a two-shot lead as several top players opened slowly.
On Thursday, July 30, Indiana native Peter Malnati shot a 9-under 61 to lead the final Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club, tying the course record set in 2025.
Detroit Golf Club underwent a $16 million renovation to restore course architect Donald Ross' vision, but organizers declined to join the PGA Tour's upcoming elite tier, making this the tournament's final year.
Rickie Fowler and Ryan Gerard finished tied for second at 7-under, two strokes back. Fowler, the 2023 Rocket Classic champion, said "it's definitely been a bummer" knowing this is the final year.
Michael Brennan surged into the top 10 with eight consecutive birdies from holes 5-12, finishing at 5-under, just one birdie shy of the PGA Tour record.
The Rocket Classic and next week's Wyndham Championship represent the final qualifying opportunities before the top 70 advance to the FedEx Cup post-season.
