(KRON) -- A suspected arsonist was arrested after a shopping cart was intentionally set ablaze and threatened a nearby building, the Petaluma Police Department said Sunday. Petaluma Homeless Encampment Fire Was Intentionally Set
Petaluma authorities say a homeless encampment fire Saturday night was intentionally set. Firefighters responded around 8:15 p.m. near Telephone Alley, just west of the Petaluma River, after a shopping cart and encampment were reported ablaze. The fire destroyed the site, damaging nearby buildings, and injuring the suspected arsonist. He was treated for minor burns before being booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of arson.
