The Government of Peru eliminated the possibility of making prior reservations to visit the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
The official audit revealed that almost 63% of the reserves ended up being cancelled or blocked speculatively, distorting the offer for international tourists.
The Government announced changes to the ticketing system for the Llaqta of Machupicchu and the Inka Road Network. The new mechanism will replace the three-hour reservation with a direct purchase with confirmed payment.
With this provision, visitors will have to pay first to be able to guarantee their access to Machu Picchu, as announced by the Minister of Culture, Alberto Beingolea, when denouncing the existence of mafias dedicated to resale.
