In Peru, an alleged recruiter of fighters for Russia was detained. In the spring of 2026, the Peruvian Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into a transnational network accused of recruiting former policemen and soldiers to fight against them in the Russian ranks in Ukraine. This was done by offering them false job offers. A suspect has just been placed in pre-trial detention for "trafficking in human beings".
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the investigator would have offered payments of USD 2,300 per month, a bonus of USD 20,000 upon completion of one year of service and the possibility of obtaining Russian nationality.
Pocho Pinto is investigated for allegedly capturing four Peruvians with offers of up to US$2,300 per month and a bonus of US$20,000. One of them died in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
