Perham Scouts map ash trees to help combat emerald ash borer threat

PERHAM — Perham Scouts are canvassing each neighborhood in the city with a goal of pinpointing every ash tree on public boulevards. In early July, the emerald ash borer made its way to Otter Tail County. The invasive Asian insect larvae bores into the bark of an ash tree, feeds on it and disrupts the flow of nutrients throughout the tree. Often the tree becomes distressed and eventually dies.
