PepsiCo Deploys 41 Driverless Trucks Hauling Doritos Across Three States
The companies said 41 Isuzu-branded trucks are making deliveries with more than 98% on-time performance.
- PepsiCo and Gatik launched a commercial deployment of 41 driverless box trucks across Arizona, Texas, and Arkansas, hauling Frito-Lay products including Doritos and Cheetos between bottling plants and major retailers.
- Collaborating since 2022, Gatik and PepsiCo transitioned to fully driverless operations in June 2025, achieving a 99% on-time arrival rate with zero accidents on public roads.
- Manufactured by Isuzu Motors in collaboration with Gatik, the trucks utilize cameras, radar, and lidar to navigate highly repeatable 14-mile routes, such as runs between a Gatorade bottling plant and storage facility.
- Opposing the deployment, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is lobbying states to mandate human operators; PepsiCo plans to retrain some drivers despite the technology reducing future hiring needs, Jim Farrell, PepsiCo senior vice president, said.
